Daesh has taken the world by storm. It is an extremist group of terrorists currently operating in the Middle East, and no one in the region is safe from their onslaught on innocent Muslims, Christians, and Jews. No, seriously, they’re killing everyone in sight, so much so that al-Qaeda, the very terrorist organization that is the sworn enemy of the Western World and orchestrators of the September 11th, 2001 attacks in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania, has actually deemed them too extreme, going as far as to delcare war on them! This is serious business, my friends.
I don’t claim to know everything about this conflict (in all honesty, there’s so much information out there that no one truly knows), but I’ll do my best to bring everyone up to speed. This, along with many Middle East-related matters, is a very complicated issue, but Iraq and Syria appear to be ground zero for this current conflict. So who is Daesh, anyways? Let’s find out about it, courtesy of our friends over at Kurzgesagt:
Wasn’t that educational? The Guardian goes into further detail regarding this group, and you can access that information here. In the meantime, let’s move on to some other matters. Anyways, you’ll notice that I’ve addressed that band of devils by another name, starting with this post’s title. Many of you know Daesh by its erroneous name (ISIS, ISIL, or IF). It’s not a surprise. But here’s the thing: They shouldn’t be called ISIS, ISIL, or the “Islamic Front.” We need to follow the lead of our French brothers and sisters and address them as “Daesh,” and here’s why, courtesy of The Independent:
Daesh, an adapted acronym of their Arabic name – Dawlat al-Islamiyah f’al-Iraq w Belaad al-Sham – is similar to another Arabic word – das – which means ‘to trample down’ or ‘crush’, which could therefore be the source of their dislike.
A job well done, @KarlreMarks. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that’s been affected by these evil works. Whether you’re in Lebanon, Paris, Nigeria, Turkey, Iraq, or Syria, each and every one of your lives matter equally to me. My prayer for you is that you may find continued peace in the face of these monsters. Someday soon, a new idea will emerge and conquer the twisted theology of these armed thugs, hopefully ushering in a new era of peace and prosperity for the Arab World.
